Niho Program

Purpose

Students who have sufficient Japanese language skills to take courses in Japanese have an opportunity to study with Oita University's Japanese students. Some advanced courses in the Japanese language are also available to improve their language proficiency.

Qualifications and Conditions

Undergraduate and Postgraduate students can only be accepted by Oita University under a Student Exchange Agreement with their home university to which they should apply. It is a requirement that interested students be recommended by their home institution.
Students should pass at least the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 3, and  students from China and Korea should pass Level 1.

Status

The status of exchange students is that of non-degree students whilst they are at Oita University.

Courses Offered in the Program

Students may take any courses offered by the International Student Center and three Faculties (Faculties of Education & Welfare Science, Economics and Engineering) at the University.

Credits Transfer

Students need to take at least 7 subjects (i.e. 10 contact hours a week) in order to satisfy the requirement of a student visa. Credits earned at Oita University may be certified as applicable to the total number of credits necessary for graduation from the international student's home university.

Fees/Scholarships

Tuition and entrance fees are waived by Oita University as the host university, but tuition and other fees should be paid to the home university. Students can apply for a JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) Scholarship at the time they apply for an exchange place.
